Ramya Haridas welcomes Balan’s view on sexist remarks

“I am happy that the CPM has finally realised his remarks had gone wrong,” she told reporters in Kollam on Sunday.

Kollam: Alathur MP-elect Ramya Haridas has welcomed culture minister A.K. Balan’s opinion that remarks of LDF convener A. Vijayaraghavan had contributed to the defeat of her rival P.K. Biju.

“I am happy that the CPM has finally realised his remarks had gone wrong,” she told reporters in Kollam on Sunday.

Ms Ramya also said the Kerala state wom-en’s commission, whom she approached against his sexist remarks, had denied her justice.

“The commission should think beyond politics to ensure justice to a woman,” she added.

The LDF convener had said after announcing her candidacy she first went to the meet Panakkad Thangal and then P.K. Kunhalikutty, and he was "not saying what would be her plight after meeting Kunhalikutty,"

Reacting to Mr Balan's comment, Mr Vijayaraghavan claimed that his remarks were just “political”, and he never thought Mr Balan would pass such criticism against him.

Mr Balan, who said Mr Vijayaraghavan’s comment affected Mr Biju’s fate, also added he had never intended to insult the candidate.

“The news on the comment might have influenced the voters. The party will evaluate all reasons for the defeat,” he said.
