K Muraleedharan thanks CM Pinarayi Vijayan for UDF win

\"It\'s a must for Congress party to reconstitute the leadership before the elections,” he said.

Thrissur: Senior Congress party leader K. Muraleedharan, the MP-elect from Vadakara, has thanked Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for "ensuring" the victory of UDF in 19 Lok Sabha seats.

“If Mr Vijayan had campaigned in Alappu-zha two more times, UDF could have won that segment as well and swept all the 20 seats in the state,” he told reporters here on Sunday.

"He is hell-bent on going down in history as the last Communist chief minister of Kerala."

Mr Muraleedharan, who was here to pay tributes at the memorial of his father K. Karunak-aran at Murali Mandir-am at Punkunnam, said that in 2004 A. K. Antony had resigned after the electoral debacle in which UDF managed to get only one out of the 20.

He also said the defeated BJP leader Kum-manam Rajasekharan should withdraw the election case against him to pave the way for the by-election in the Vattiy-oorkavu constituency that he's vacating.

Starting from the by-elections for all the six vacant seats in the assembly in the coming six months, he said, the next two years will witness polls to civic bodies next year and the Assembly in May 2021.

"It's a must for Congress party to reconstitute the leadership before the elections,” he said.
