Alert as terrorists set off to Lakshadweep

According to police sources, such alerts are the usual practice when intelligence inputs come.

Kochi: The Kerala coast continues to be on high alert following an intelligence report that a boat allegedly carrying Islamic State (IS) terrorists had set off for the Lakshadweep Islands from Sri Lanka.

The coastal police, navy and coast guard have intensified their surveillance. “Information in this regard has been received from the authorities, and the surveillance and security in the sea have been intensified,” a source from the defence ministry said.

According to police sources, such alerts are the usual practice when intelligence inputs come.

“We have given alerts to the coastal police stations and police chiefs of coastal districts in this regard. These alerts can either be true or false, but we have to take actions on each of it,” a police source said.

The alert is learnt to have received by the police and other agencies on May 23, and special surveillances were going on since then.

It was on April 21, Sri Lanka witnessed one of the deadly suicide attacks which claimed more than 250 lives.

The IS took the responsibility of these blasts.
