Two workers die as wall collapses in Premnagar

Hyderabad: Two workers died while one escaped with injuries when a wall collapsed on them at a construction site near Ali Cafe at Premnagar in Amberpet on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred when the building expansion works were being carried out without permissions at Anu Packing Company.

According to the police, Monavath Chandu, 50, of Bagh Amberpet, Venkataiah, 40, of Ramnagar, and Das, 19, were digging at the site beside a wall of electricity department office on Saturday morning.

The loose soil was dumped on another side of the wall, which failed to withstand the pressure and collapsed on the trio.

“Chandu and Venkataiah died on the spot while Das escaped with injuries. The labourers were hired by a contractor from Bathukamma Kunta labour adda for taking up digging works using a drilling machine,” Amberpet sub-inspector S. Veeraiah said. “They dumped the soil on the other side of the wall which caved in, and the debris fell on them,” he said. The contractor and others present at the construction site escaped from the spot immediately after the incident. Police, who rushed to the spot on receiving infomation, carried out the rescue operation” he said.

The police managed to rescue Das by pulling him out of the debris. He was admitted at the Osmania General Hospital where his condition was stated to be stable.

The owner of the company, Ramesh, was reportedly taken into police custody and criminal cases will be filed against him.
