Bengaluru: It’s been five months since 108 trees that were to be felled because of the Metro construction work were transplanted on the campus of Sathya Sai Super Speciality Hospital. On Saturday, citizens witnessed healthy trees taking shoots on the sprawling campus that is turning greener.
Metro construction on the stretch from IBM Whitefield to Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre would have seen the demise of around 250 trees. But software engineer Ram got in touch with tree doctor Vijay Nishanth and environmentalist Akshay Heblikar, who formed a team of to save some of those trees.
The BMRCL agreed to provide men and machines for the translocation of trees, while members of the tree committee pitched in with expertise, completing the project within months. Sri Sathya Sai Hospital agreed to give space for around 100 trees on its campus.
To celebrate the translocation of trees, a special ceremony was held on Saturday, where citizens, hospital authorities and BMRCL officials watered the 100 trees.
Mr Nishanth spoke about the efforts of several individuals in transplanting the trees.
Sri Sathya Sai Super Specialty Hospital Director Dr D.C. Sundaresh and social worker Vijayakummar Reddy too were present.
