CBSE results: Boy in hugging row scores 91 per cent marks
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The 17-year-old boy who got embroiled in the hugging row at St. Thomas Central School, Mukkolakkal, has come out in flying colours. The boy is awaiting admission to Symbiosis Law School, Noida or Hyderabad. The row erupted on July 21 when he hugged a 11th grader after she sang well in a western music competition. The boy has taken sweet revenge on those who had mentally tortured him for several months after that.
He scored above 90 percent subject in humanities with English Core – 87, Economics – 99, Business Studies – 90, Accountancy – 88 and Psychology -92. St. Thomas Central School at Mukkolakkal initiated disciplinary action against both the boy and the girl after a teacher took up the issue with its vice-principal. Despite students giving written apologies, the authorities summoned the parents, placed the boy under suspension and refused to regularise the admission of the girl who had just shifted here from the Gulf.
The father criticised the way Rajan Varghese, secretary of the Mar Thoma Educational Society, addressed his child as ‘vithukala’ (bull in heat) and other abusive words and asking him to kill his son. He was allowed to take the exams after the mediation of Dr Shashi Tharoor MP. The pupil said he was elated with his scores and is keen to pursue law.
“I have scored an aggregate of 91.2 percent. This result is a fitting reply to those people who hurt me unnecessarily. I will know the outcome of the Symbiosis entrance exam and interview in a few days time,” he told DC. The boy’s father said his son was keen to study outside the state just because of the harrowing time he had when the row triggered a national controversy. “Initially my son had difficulty in concentrating on his preparations towards the pre-board and then the CBSE board exams. But fortunately, he managed to study well by keeping behind the incident," he told DC.
