HYDERABAD: Telangana state has received scanty rainfall at a total of – 53 per cent during the pre-monsoon season from March to May, the weather bureau here has stated. The pre-monsoon season is about to end, with some districts even showing a deficiency of over 85 per cent. However, Hyderabad, however faced only a 17% deficiency in rainfall in this period. It stood last in the list of districts.
According to statistics, the summer showers in all the TS districts, except Hyderabad, have shown a major departure from its normal mean rainfall limit of the areas during the season.
Karimnagar with -85 %, Nizamabad with -72 % and Warangal with -69 % experienced the highest rainfall deficiency. Hyderabad could cover up this because of the thunderstorm in April and May.
Officials at the weather bureau attribute the scanty pre-monsoon rainfall to climate change. “The summer was warmer in the state this year with an increase in temperature by 1°C above normal. So, all these factors thwarted a favourable condition for pre-monsoon showers. Also, the wind blowing from the Bay of Bengal this year lacked moisture content, as they predominantly came from the western and northern sides of the Bay,” they stated.

Warning for Telangana: On May 27, heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail at isolated places in all the districts. Thunderstorm accompanied by gusty winds is likely at isolated places in all the districts. On May 28, thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are likely to occur at isolated places in all the districts.
