20 techies go to Telangana labour department over layoffs
Hyderabad: As many as 20 techies working with Cognizant Technology Solutions and Tech Mahindra approached the Telangana Labour department on Friday alleging that they were axed for no good reasons.
Labour department officials told them that they cannot intervene if the employees have submitted their resignations and have stopped going to work. Only those who have been terminated and were asked to leave can file a complaint following which notices could be issued to the concerned employer, the techies were told.
One of the techies who had gone to the Labour department joined the company only a few months back. He was pressurized to resign with the company threatening to terminate his services. The Labour Department asked him to make a complaint in writing. Some of the techies do not want to be quoted fearing for their future.
“Some of the techies, who joined almost two years back and those with years of experience and were serving in high positions in the establishment were shown the door. Companies say that these are performance based exits but the number of lay-offs this year are in the range of 20 per cent which is unheard of. Even those promoted recently were not spared,” a techie said.
