GHMC for stronger Cell towers
Hyderabad: Following the large-scale destruction caused by hoardings and cellphone towers during the recent storms, the GHMC has directed cellphone tower agencies to follow guidelines so that the towers can withstand windspeeds of 200 kmph.
While new towers will have to follow these guidelines, the existing towers should be inspected by the agencies and measures for repair or replacement must be taken within a week. Structural stability of the buildings on which the existing towers are erected will also have to be verified.
GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy said the agencies should submit certificates within a week after due inspection of existing towers stating that the buildings on which the towers stand and the tower themselves are structurally safe.
“The agencies will have to place emergency response teams in place. They will have to share the contact details of the emergency response teams with the GHMC. In case of any untoward incident due to their negligence, criminal cases will be filed against the cellular tower agency concerned,” he said.
