Andhra Pradesh, Telangana Judicial officers allocation demanded on 52:48 ratio

The Hyderabad High Court had sought options from the judicial officers as to which state they prefer to be allotted.

Rajahmundry: The Andhra Pradesh lawyers demanded allocation of judicial officers from the rank of junior civil judge to district judge between AP and TS as per 52:48 ratio mentioned in the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, without any deviation from it in the state.

In response to the hue and cry being raised by lawyers and judges from the TS, alleging that judges hailing from AP are being allocated to TS affecting the service conditions of existing judges in TS, the AP lawyers said that though the judges hail from AP, they have been working in TS for a long time and their families are settled there.

The AP lawyers say that as Hyderabad is a common capital for both AP and TS for a period of 10 years, it is unfair to opp-ose the allocation of AP judges to the TS as several posts of judges are vacant in the TS for want of requisite number of judges.

The Hyderabad High Court had sought options from the judicial officers as to which state they prefer to be allotted. Accordingly, the judicial officers expressed their wish and the information is posted on the official website of the Hyderabad High Court.

As many as 121 judicial officers hailing from AP are learnt to have opted to work in TS. Irked at this outcome from the exercise, Telangana lawyers are demanding allotment of judicial officers between AP and TS on 60:40 ratio instead of 52:48 ratio incorporated in AP Reorganisation Act.

The AP lawyers allege that the TS legal fraternity fears that if such a large number of judicial officers are allocated to them, it might affect their promotions. The Hyderabad High Court is yet to take a final decision on allocation of judicial officers between AP and TS.

Meanwhile, the TS legal fraternity is involving in a series of activities to mou-nt pressure on the Hyderabad High Court by abstaining from judicial work and a series of representations being made to oppose allocation of AP judicial officers to TS.

AP lawyers JAC leader and Bar Council member Muppala Subba Rao said, “We want the allocation of judicial officers between AP and TS as per 52:48 ratio mentioned in the Act. We will not accept any proposal from the TS legal fraternity to deviate from it. It is unfair on the part of TS lawyers to adopt intimidatory tactics on the issue and we will not tolerate such moves.”
