Viveka murder case: Telangana HC cancels Gangi Reddy's bail

Hyderabad: Justice Chillakuru Sumalatha of Telangana High Court on Thursday cancelled the bail granted to Yerra Gangi Reddy, prime accused in YS Vivekananda Reddy murder case.

Earlier, Kadapa sessions court had granted bail to Gangi Reddy as the Investigating agency (SIT constituted by AP government) failed to file charge-sheet within the stipulated time period.

After the investigation was transferred to the CBI, it filed a petition before the Kadapa court requesting to cancel the bail granted to Gangi Reddy. However, the Sessions court and later the Andhra Pradesh High Court dismissed the CBI petition on the grounds that the statutory bail can not be cancelled.

The CBI approached Supreme Court, challenging the AP High Court order. The apex court set aside the AP High Court order and transferred the case to Telangana High Court, directing it to hear the CBI petition afresh.

Justice Chillakuru Sumalatha of Telangana High Court after hearing the contentions of all sides, including N. Suneetha Reddy, daughter of YS Vivekananda Reddy, pronounced the order.

Gangi Reddy was directed to surrender before principal CBI court in Hyderabad. The CBI can arrest him and produce before the CBI court if he fails to surrender. The court directed CBI to release him on July 1, this year.
