Naxalites in Kodagu? Police say ANF probing

The police have ruled out the possibility of Naxal activity, however the Anti-Naxal Force is investigating the matter.

Mysuru: People of Yavakapaadi village at Tadiyandamol hill in Virajpet taluk of Kodagu are a worried lot after two people who they suspect to be Naxalites, visited houses in the village and allegedly snatched a mobile phone besides carrying away rice.

The police have ruled out the possibility of Naxal activity, however the Anti-Naxal Force is investigating the matter.

According to the police, Anitha, a native of Yavakapaadi village has alleged that a man and a woman, both around 40, visited her house at around 10.30 am on Friday snatched her mobile and also threatened to kill her if she informed the police. They were not in any kind of uniform nor did they carry weapons, Anitha told the police. Another villager, Kuttappa, has alleged that the quantity of rice at his home had decreased and suspected that someone has taken it away when he was not at home.

When contacted, Kodagu superintendent of police Dr Suman D Pennekar said "Going by the statement of the complainant, they do not seem to be Naxalites. The mobile of the complainant Anitha has been traced near her place. Also, we have not found rice being spilled anywhere near Kuttappa'ss house. The road which Anitha says was taken by the duo when they left, leads to a stream which is a dead end. However, the Anti-Naxal Force and the ANF Squad are investigating,” she said.
