Narendra Modi backs fielding Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur

He also mentioned about the court’s decision not to bar the 2008 Malegaon blast accused from contesting elections.

Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday came out strongly in support of Pragya Singh Thakur’s candidature for Bhopal and said it is an attempt to to take on the charge of ‘Hindu terror’ head on.

He also mentioned about the court’s decision not to bar the 2008 Malegaon blast accused from contesting elections.

“India's age-old legacy has been tarnished by coining the term Hindu terror. This thing has to be taken head on. They said ‘chowkidar chor hai’. I challenged it upfront by becoming a chowkidar,” he said in an exlusive interview to a TV channel.

He even recalled accusations he faced as CM. “I faced so many allegations that even a wave was generated against me. If you look at newspapers and online media, you would find lakhs of pages written against me. That's what influenced the United States to revoke my visa,” he said.

"But when the truth came out, the same United States extended an invitation to me. This is the Congress modus operandi to propagate lies."

Six persons were killed and over 100 injured when an explosive device strapped to a motorcycle went off near a mosque in Malegaon, a town in north Maharashtra in 2008.
