Bengaluru: Police identify spots prone to waterlogging in city
Bengaluru: Every time it rains, motorists fear of getting caught up in traffic jams caused due to water logging. This time Bangalore Traffic Police (BTP) have conducted a survey across the city to identify spots notorious for water logging.
A senior police officer in the traffic department said, “Even the moderate rains in last week brought the traffic to standstill in some places. Then we can imagine what will happen when the monsoon is in full swing. Hence we decided to get this survey done.”
“We informed the jurisdictional traffic police station to check for water logging in roads and important junctions within their jurisdictional limits and submit a report to us. Around 45 such spots were identified. It includes Tin Factory junction, Kasturi Nagar underpass, Whitefield – K.R. Puram underpass and many more,” the officer added.
“After collecting information, we filed a report and submitted to the BBMP and have asked them to carry out immediate maintenance work, to ensure that there is no traffic congestion due to water logging. They have assured that they will look into the matter immediately,” the officer added.
Another officer, who was part of the team which filed the report, said, “We have specifically mentioned to the BBMP to look into all underpasses, as they get flooded even if it rains for just five minutes. The underpasses are important, as it connects the main roads and when it is flooded, it requires more than two to three days to drain out water. They should make proper outlets and ensure that there is no flooding.”
Another report is being prepared by the traffic police to ensure the safety of the pedestrians and motorists. During the survey the police found that there was a need to upgrade pedestrian crossing at 213 places, 207 scientifically designed speed breakers are required and numerous places were poorly lit.
