Bank fraud case: Y Sujana Chowdhary fails to appear before CBI

Sources said that Chowdhary may approach the court for anticipatory bail.

Hyderabad: Former Union Minister and TD parliamentarian Y. Sujana Chowdhary did not appear before the CBI in Bengaluru on Friday, despite its the Banking Security and Fraud Cell (BSFC) wing issuing him summons in connection with the bank fraud case.

The CBI, Bengaluru branch issued summons on April 25 directing Mr Chowdhary to appear in a case pertaining to the Best & Crompton Engineering private limited which is alleged to have defrauded banks of Rs 364 crore during 2010-13.

Sources told Deccan Chronicle that though the TDP MP was in Bengaluru on Friday he made one of his company directors attend the CBI summons. Sources said that Mr Chowdhary may approach the court for anticipatory bail.

It is alleged that the money that the firm took as a loan was transferred through bogus invoices and shell companies to Mahal Hotels which was found to be a fake. Both Best & Crompton Engineering and Mahal Hotels are part of Sujana Group of Companies.
