Karnataka High Court quashes Bomb Naga plea
BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday disposed of the petition filed by V Nagaraj, who had approached the court expressing apprehension against police treatment.
The court disposed of his plea while directing that the SC guidelines be followed.
He has been on the run following a police raid on his house that led to the seizure of Rs 14.8 crore cash in demonetised currency notes. The court has disposed of his petition after the state submitted before the High Court that lawful procedures will be followed in the case.
While disposing the case the court told the police to follow the guidelines set by the Supreme Court in the Nandini Satpathy and others case. In his plea, Nagaraj, also known as 'Bomb Naga', fears that the police would subject him to cruel treatment and register fake cases against him.
While claiming innocence, the petitioner stated in his petition that he had a 'clean' image had named his two sons as Gandhi and Shastri! He claimed he was not evading arrest and was ready to surrender. However, he was apprehensive about the police excesses and sought directions to the police after he surrenders before them.
He had requested that his advocate be present every time he made a statement to the police.
Will arrest him soon: Police
The police rubbished the surrender demands of Bomb Naga before the High Court and said that there is no need for Naga to surrender as they are capable of arresting him.
A top police official told Deccan Chronicle that they have intensified the manhunt and the rowdy and former corporator would be arrested soon. "Who is Naga to put conditions for us? They are ridiculous. We know how to carry out the investigation. He’ll be arrested soon," he said.
Naga, who is absconding since April 14 after the police raided his house in Srirampura and seized Rs 14.80 crore in scrapped currency notes, had in a video said that the money did not belong to him and that the police had kept it in the house to frame him. He even alleged that police wanted to kill him in a fake encounter.
Naga, along with his sons Gandhi and Shastri, is said to be hiding somewhere in Tamil Nadu but the police, 16 days since the raid, are still clueless on his whereabouts.
