Telangana: Doctor suspended for illegal surgery spree
Hyderabad: The Telangana Medical Council on Tuesday issued suspension orders against Dr Suresh Kumar for illegal appendix operations carried out in Jagatiyal.
The Council has also summoned Dr Manoj Kumar, another accused in the incident, for an explanation.
Chairman of TMC Dr Ravinder Reddy said, “The suspension orders were issued after proper investigation by the ethics committee which has found that the doctor has indulged in an illegal act.” According to sources in the Council, the ethics committee found that the appendicitis operations were not necessary as the patients did not have a history of pain. The findings against Dr Manoj Kumar need to be verified by the committee and for that reason he has been called for explanation.
Meanwhile a section of doctors are questioning the rights of the Council and its action. Dr Reddy said, “The Council has to ensure that ethical practices are followed by doctors and those who are not doing so will be punished. The punishment is decided according to the rules by the Medical Council of India.”
The Council has taken strong objection to those who are questioning its actions and has pointed out that this kind of disinformation was only going to harm the profession. Unethical practises in the medical fraternity will be punished and rightful action will send a message to others to not indulge in the same, it said.
