Dr G Parameshwar to corporates: Do your bit
Bengaluru: In the wake of severe drought in the state, Karntaka Pradesh Congress Committee president Dr G. Parameshwara on Tuesday appealed millionaire philanthropists and corporate honchos to donate generously to take up drought relief works in the state.
He has also called to emulate, Dharmastala Dhramdhikari, Veerendra Heggde, who has donated Rs 1 crore to help animals which are worst affected lot in the state.
According to Dr Parameshwara the state was facing unprecedented rise in mercury levels as most of part the state have broken soaring temperatures of 148 years history. "Thus, it has become pertinent to rope in support of philanthropists, corporate and industrialists as well as Pontiffs of various community mathas to join and strengthen the state government's hands to mitigate drought in the state," the KPCC president appealed.
He also pleaded that the political parties must refrain from indulging unnecessary politicking over drought relief works. "Chief Minister, Siddamraiah along with ministers has been on a state wide tour to monitor as well as carry out drought relief works on war footing exercise," he added.
He said there was certainly acute shortage of fodder in the state, therefore, he would soon discuss with Chief Minister, Siddarmaiah and suggest him to lead the all-party delegation to New Delhi seeking more grants to tackle fodder problem too.
Meanwhile, former chief minister, S. M. Krishna has written to law and parliamentary affairs minister T. B. Jayachandra urging him to expedite drought relief works across Mandya district.
