Nellore: A young couple belonging to Tamil Nadu committed suicide in a room at Ram Bagicha guest house in Tirumala. Both are close relatives and they took the extreme step after parents of the girl denied permission for the marriage.
The incident came to light when sanitation staff alerted the security staff after they found no response from inside when they went to clean the room on Tuesday morning. The duo took selfies and also a video on the cell phone stating that they are ending their lives.
They have been identified as Sampath Kumar, 25, and Sathyavani, 17, of Coimbatore. According to Tirumala One Town SI Timmaiah, the pair took room number 384 in Ram Bagicha guesthouse at 9 pm on Saturday (April 23) and they had the darshan of the Lord on the same day night. The bodies of the two were found hanging from the ceiling fan when police and TTD vigilance teams broke open the doors after receiving in-formation from guesthouse staff about foul smell emanating from the room.
The bodies have been shifted for post-mortem after conducting an inquest. Police recovered two suicide notes written separately by the deceased. Going by the suicide note of Sampath, Sathyavani is his sister's daughter and they have been in love for the past four years. However, Sathyavani family was against the marriage. They also foiled an attempt by the couple to marry after eloping from home last month. Sampath was sent to jail after they lodged a kidnap case against him following the incident.
Sampath came out of jail on bail recently and he married Sathyavani at Tirumala before ending their lives. He mentioned in the letter that they took the extreme step since Sathyavani parents are definite to kill them if they return to Coimbatore. In her suicide note, Sathyavani attributed their suicide to her parents and appealed to the police to hand over her body only to the parents of Sampath to perform final rites. Meanwhile, Sathyavani father Sivan told over phone that they had objected to the marriage because his daughter is a minor. He alleged that Sampath had already married another girl and deserted her.
