Chennai: Drunk drives BMW into compound wall

Police said that Manoj Kumar Singh had lost control of the vehicle, which was he speeding in the residential area and so caused the mishap.

Chennai: A luxury sedan, with a suspected drunken driven behind the wheel, crashed into the compound wall of a house in upscale Kottivakkam neighbourhood off East Coast Road damaging as many as five bikes parked inside the premises.

According to a complaint lodged by V Sankarasubramanian (55), the owner of the house, the incident on Jaganathan Street in Lakhmanan Nagar in Kottivakkam on Friday night damaged his compound wall completely, besides the vehicles.

"I was watching TV with my family at around 11 pm when we heard a loud noise outside the home. We went out and found a car (a BMW -TN 19 K 7183) smashed against the compound wall. The vehicle had gone through the wall and smashed the bikes parked inside. The driver identified himself as Manoj Kumar Singh. It appeared the driver was under the influence of alcohol," Sankarasubramanian said.

Police said that Manoj Kumar Singh had lost control of the vehicle, which was he speeding in the residential area and so caused the mishap. The driver is a resident of nearby Palavakkam, police added. The Adyar traffic investigation wing has registered a case of drunken driving and damaging properties against Manoj Kumar Singh.
