Hyderabad: The Telangana state government on Tuesday raised a new objection against the Polavaram project before the Supreme Court. The state government has asked the apex court to review the environmental clearance accorded to the project.
The state government has filed the additional affidavit before the Supreme Court in this regard in a petition filed by politician Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy.
Stressing that the clearance has to be reviewed on the grounds that the Union government had given permission in 2005, the Telangana state requested the court to stop the construction until it gets new clearance as per the present status of the project.
The government also wants the impact of flooding to be assessed before clearance is granted.
