Hyderabad: Man’s mobile explodes during ride, gets burns

Police said Imran had reportedly purchased a mobile phone (Oppo Model A5) last week.

Hyderabad: A 25-year-old man from the city sustained burns when his ‘Oppo’ mobile phone exploded in his trousers while he was riding a motorcycle. The victim fell on the road and received injuries to his head and was admitted to a hospital for treatment.

Bolaram police identified the victim as Imran, a resident of Machabolaram under Alwal police station limits.

Police said Imran had reportedly purchased a mobile phone (Oppo Model A5) last week.

On Tuesday morning, when he was heading towards Bolaram from his home on a bike, the phone which was in the left pocket of his trousers exploded. He lost control of the bike and fell on the road.

The police said that the explosion left burns on Imran’s left thigh. As a result of the fall from the bike, he received bleeding injuries to his head. He was taken to the Cantonment Hospital for treatment, where he is stated to be out of danger.

Bolaram inspector P. Ramesh Reddy said “It has been observed that the device (mobile phone) has some defects which led to an explosion. The victim is advised to proceed legally by filing a complaint at the consumer forum for justice. No case has been registered in this regard.”

A similar incident took place at Ibrahimpatnam on February 24, where an Oppo mobile phone caught fire. Gunukula Naresh, 23, of Manneguda was electrocuted when he tried to charge it.
