Hyderabad: 3 arrested for smuggling 40-kg ganja

The police seized 40 kg ganja and five mobile phones from the accused on Tuesday.

Hyderabad: Three persons were apprehended by the Hyderabad task force police for smuggling ganja from Andhra Pradesh to Telangana. The police seized 40 kg ganja and five mobile phones from the accused on Tuesday.

The accused purchased ganja from Rajamahendravaram (Rajahmundry) and went to Hyderabad in an APSRTC bus on Tuesday and were waiting to give the contraband to a person at Narayanguda when they were caught, said the police.

Task force DCP P Radha Kishan Rao said that accused persons – K. Srinivas Reddy (37) of Machavaram, G. Jag-adish (50) of Nakirekal and G Mohan (36) of Vishakhapat-nam, were caught at Narayan-guda when they were in possession of 40 Kg ganja and were waiting to hand it over to one Kishore.

The accused purchased ganja through one V. Vishwanad-ham, a resident of agency area in Paderu mandal of Visha-khapatnam, and brought it to the city in an APSRTC bus from Rajamahendravaram. They wanted to sell the ganja at Rs 9,000 per Kg and distribute the Rs 3,000 profit among themselves, said the DCP.

The official said that another accused Vishwanadham was yet to be nabbed. The seized contraband and the five mobile phones have been handed over at Narayanguda police station for further legal action.
