YSR Congress demands Telugu Desam MPs too to resign
VIJAYAWADA: YSRC demanded TD MPs also to resign to press the demand for special category status to Andhra Pradesh. YSRC chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday held a meeting with party MPs in Sattenapalle in Guntur district to discuss the latest political developments. Also on the agenda was the strategy to be adopted in the Lok Sabha in wake of the Speaker not taking up the no-confidence motion notice given by YSRC.
He asked the MPs not to wait until April 6 and to submit their resignations as and when the Lok Sabha is announced sine die until the next session. Mr Jagan has already said his MPs will resign demanding special category status. Resignations will be in the Speaker format. “If all the 25 MPs of our state stand on one stage and tender their resignation the whole country will talk about it. We are requesting Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, in the interest of the state to be on the right side of history for once by announcing his MP resignations too. Whether TD MPs do it or not, YSRC MPs would resign on the last day of this Parliament session. Chandrababu Naidu who used to always settle for special package now was forced to take a U-turn on Special Category Status only because of the relentless struggle of the people of Andhra Pradesh, and YSRC who constantly fought for their rights,” said Nellore MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy after the meeting.
He added that if Mr Jagan would not have made a move against the NDA government, Mr Naidu would not have initiated any such move against the Centre. “It was only because YSRC moved for a no-confidence motion and had gathered support from the public, Mr Naidu had to take back his words and change his stand from March 15 to March 16. Mr Naidu had no options and this is people’s victory.” Mr Raja Mohan Reddy added.
Ongole MP Y.V. Subbareddy said, “Special Category Status (SCS) is Andhra Pradesh’s right and YSRC will settle for nothing less. SCS to AP was made a precondition to split the state. The same was assured on the floor of our Parliament by the then ruling and Opposition parties alike. It was approved by the Union Cabinet in March 2014 and even orders for implementation were sent to the Planning Commission. Denying SCS to Andhra Pradesh is injustice and we will continue our fight till we get justice for our state.”
The MPs in the meeting told Mr Jagan that the fight taken up by YSRC like moving a no-confidence motion against NDA was the talk of the Parliament and many other parties had lent their support. Meanwhile, the YSRC had decided not to attend an all-party meeting called by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday at Vijayawada to discuss Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh issue. In a statement, YSRC said that how appropriate for Mr Naidu, who tried to weaken the stir for SCS, to lead it now. party leaders said that Mr Naidu doesn’t have moral right to call for such an all-party meeting at this juncture after YSRC had already gone ahead.
