Vijayawada: Doctors, medicos to go on medical strike from April 2
VIJAYAWADA: Service doctors, junior doctors and medical students of Vijayawada city participated in Indian Medical Association maha panchyat held in Indira Gandhi Stadium, New Delhi, to protest against the medical commission on Sunday. They shared the national-level resolutions with the IMA members here on Monday. Protest against National Medical Council (NMC) bill has been on for the last one month acorss India. National president Dr Ravindra Wankhedkar visited Vijayawada branch and motivated them to join this maha panchyat recently.
Later, for this protest, cycle rally was held in Vijayawada by IMA, under the leadership of IMA secretary Dr Rasik Sanghvi on March 11. Around 40 doctors and 40 medical students left for Delhi from Vijayawada and joined the protest rally which started from IMA Hall, Indraprastha Marg and culminated at Indira Gandhi stadium about 2 km away. Over 25,000 doctors from across India, junior doctors, medical students, service doctors joined the protest. Dr Jaysekhar strongly opposed the Bill saying that it is anti-poor and pro-rich.
Dr Sanghvi also added that if this bill comes into force, the future of young doctors will be ruined. Quackery, malpractice and corruption will increase, he said. The meeting ended with a resolution passed by the national president that if this bill is not rolled back, there will be a total medical strike by all doctors from 2nd April, which can lead to a lot of trouble.
Dr Samaram, IMA former national president, Dr Jaysekhar, state president, Dr Karunamurty, state secretary, Dr Bose, president, IMA, Vijayawada, Dr Rasik Sanghvi, secretary, IMA, Dr Ramprasad, ex-president, Dr Gangadhar, ex-state presidents and other participants shared their experiences and important resolutions of the IMA taken at the meeting.
