E-verification of passports launched in Ernakulam
Kochi: The passport verification process will be completed in quick time from now in Ernakulam rural district, thanks to the mobile-phone based e-verification system. Ernakulam Rural Superintendent A. V. George launched the project, expected to help cut down the verification time from the existing 21 days to four days, at a function on Monday at the district police headquarters in Aluva.
“Under the programme, indigenously developed passport electronic verification application ‘e-VIP’ will be utilized. Also smart phones will be allocated to all 50 police stations in the district. So far, printouts of passport applications and reports were physically sent to the district police headquarters from the passport office and from there to concerned police stations, consuming much time. Now, the documents can be sent in real time through the app and from there to the smart phones allocated to police stations,” said a statement.
Similarly, after the verification, the Field Verification Officers will return the police verification report to district headquarters directly with their digital signature by using the mobile application. Selected police personnel from all the police stations in the district were given training on the system over the last one month. Ernakulam rural is the fifth police district where the e-verification project is being launched. It is already available in Malappuram, Thrissur City, Thrissur Rural and Kannur districts.
