Acute need for blood banks in Andhra Pradesh

Activists to create awareness among people.

Visakhapatnam: A blood donation camp took place in the city to spread awareness about the shortage of blood units at blood banks during summer. “Ken Foundation Society” in association with KGH Blood Bank has organized a Blood donation camp at Analog IAS Institute in Dwarakanagar. As many as 70 people donated blood voluntarily.

Medical Officer of KGH Blood Bank, Raj Gurbuxani said, “Acute shortage of blood arises during summer and many blood banks run out of blood and its components, particularly from the month of April to August, as many rely on student donors. There is a sharp fall in blood donation camps during summer vacations as many institutions and colleges are closed.”

S. Ravi Shankar Narayan, Addl. Commissioner of Income Tax said that the younger generations must pledge and come forward to give blood voluntarily so that there will be no dearth of blood worldwide and he also outlined the worth of blood for victims requiring blood transfusions and stressed on the need to build more awareness about voluntary blood donation.

S. Geetha Narayan, Vice-President, Ken Foundation Society, also said the Ken Foundation would organise such camps and bring more awareness amongst people about the acute shortage of blood. P. Santosh, Ken Foundation President was also present.
