Odisha CM orders Crime Branch to probe posting of girls photos in FB
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday ordered the Crime Branch of Police to probe into the alleged posting of obscene remarks against some women students along with their photos on a social media site.
Patnaik ordered the Director of the Crime Branch of Police to initiate stringent action against the culprits involved in such behaviour on Facebook, allegedly by a city-based marketing agency.
The Chief Minister issued the direction after a group of students from three women’s educational institutions met him here on Monday. The girls demanded exemplary action against the persons involved in posting of such obscene remarks against Rama Devi Women's university students along with their photos on the Facebook.
Earlier, the students of the Rama Devi Women's University had on Saturday lodged a complaint with the police alleging that pictures of some girl students were posted on Facebook with derogatory remarks.
The girls filed an FIR against one person heading a marketing agency and accused him of misusing their photographs with objectionable captions.
The agency, however, removed the objectionable page from Facebook after the girls lodged the complaint at the police station.
