Telangana: Water Grid gives power boost
Hyderabad: Mission Bhagiratha will not only quench the thirst of hundreds of habitations but also facilitate power supply to lakhs of households in the State.
Telangana power utilities have taken up construction of 33/11 kv sub-stations, erection of new 12.5 MVA transformers replacing 8 MVA capacity transformers and laying of 33 kv and 11 kv lines to pump water as part of the Water Grid project.
Nearly Rs 50 crore is being spent for power infrastructure works in the first phase by the two power distribution companies. This infrastructure will help in solving voltage fluctuation problems and reduce power outages due to tripping and other local problems in the 9 constituencies that would be receiving water under Phase-I of the project.
“About 9-0 per cent of the works have been completed. Both the Southern and northern power discoms are adhering to the time schedule as the Chief Minister wants water supply from the grid to start for at least 9 Assembly constituencies by April end,” said a senior official in the energy sector, Telangana.
“Though the entire project will require 200 MW of power, to begin with, only two to four MW are needed for 10 Assembly segments. The state will have surplus power within two years by the time the entire project becomes operational,” a senior official in the energy department said.
