Telangana HC rejects medical college’s plea for resuming PG admissions

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Monday rejected a plea of Maheshwara Medical College requesting directions to the National Medical Council (NMC) to allow it to offer PG medical courses in the forthcoming academic year.

The NMC had withdrawn the letter of permissions granted to the college and ordered shifting of students admitted for the academic years 2021-22 and 2022-23 as it had submitted seven fake bank guarantee documents of Bank of Baroda.

The college management approached the High Court for relief. However, the single judge court rejected its plea. Challenging it, the college filed an appeal before the division bench.

D. Prakash Reddy, senior counsel, representing the college, submitted that the college has not acted fraudulently. It was committed by the consultant with whom the college had an agreement. He also informed that genuine guarantees had been submitted to NMC.

Sriranga Poojitha, counsel for NMC, brought to the notice of the court that the college had admitted students for 2022-23 year on fake bank guarantees.

The division bench, comprising Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice N. Tukaramji, rejected the plea of the college.
