10 per cent green budget for all, says KT Rama Rao

KTR expressed disappointment at the poor sanitation facilities and lack of trees in the area.

Warangal: Minister for municipal administration and urban development (MAUD) K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Wednesday paid a surprise visit to Jangaon and inspected the progress of ‘Pattana Pragathi Programme’. As part of the tour, he visited several houses in Dharmakancha and spoke to the residents and enquired about drinking water supply, household tap connections, pension, ration and sanitation.

Later, addressing the locals at Ambedkar Bhavan, he said that the state government is putting in all efforts towards development.

“The state will prosper once all the 12,751 village panchayats and 141 municipalities are developed. All we need to do is increase greenery, maintain hygienic surroundings and go about with a proper plan. The government has already brought laws to take action against all those causing damage and hampering the growth process,” he said.

However, he expressed disappointment at the poor sanitation facilities and lack of trees in the area. He appealed to the residents to plant saplings in their yards.

“The local councilors will help you find the saplings that you require. Not only do they have to make sure you plant saplings, it is also their responsibility to see that 85 per cent of them survive. If they fail to do so, they will be shunted from the post and this is the law,” he said in a veiled caution to the authorities responsible for maintaining green cover.

Mr Rao said that 10 per cent of the municipal funds should be allocated to green budget in every town. He said that he will visit Jangaon again after two months and take stock of the progress of developmental activities.

KTR spoke to women and urged to make optimal use of household dustbins provided by the municipalities. He appealed to the residents not to throw garbage in open plots. He appealed to them to segregate daily waste as dry and wet waste.

“The wet waste will be used to prepare compost and that in turn can be used as urea by farmers,” he said.

Panchayat Raj minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao, Jangaon MLA M. Yadagiri Reddy, Jangaon Collector K. Nikhila and others were also present during the inspection.
