Toddler dies, kin attack Gandhi doctor
Hyderabad: Dr P. Karthik, a post-graduate student, was assaulted by the relatives of a critically ill two-year-old child who died while undergoing treatment at the Gandhi General Hospital on Tuesday. To protest this incident, junior doctors have called for a boycott of services on Wednesday.
The child was admitted with fever and congestive heart failure. Doctors explained her condition to the parents and relatives. At 6.30 pm, when the child’s condition worsened, the attenders called the post-graduate doctor to attend on her.
The child was kept on ventilator support but there was no response and doctors declared her dead.
The family members then attacked Dr Karthik and broke furniture in the hospital before they were stopped by others present there.
Angry junior doctors from both Gandhi and Niloufer Hospitals have called for a complete boycott of services on February 27. Doctors were assaulted at the Niloufer Hospital on February 17.
The doctors state that there was no security guard in the evening to protect them and they have been repeatedly asking for protection but it is not being given to them.
There have been at least two other cases of doctors being assaulted this year after Global Hospital was vandalised by a patient’s relatives and a policeman assaulted after a patient died in December last year.
