Laser guided 'Lizard' bombs of Mirage 2000 jets can destroy everything in 200ft

Eight of these jets provided additional protection to Mirage 2000 aircraft during this morning's air strike.

Bengaluru: Laser guided bombs (LGBs), christened ‘Lizard’, for their ability to home in on targets even in darkness, and used by the Indian Air Force (IAF)’s Mirage 2000 combat jets during the air strike early Tuesday morning, were manufactured by Bengaluru-based Alpha Design Technologies Ltd in collaboration with Israeli major ELBIT.

These LGBs, weighing 1,000 kg, fitted under the aircraft’s wing, decimate any target and surrounding area of about 200 feet after their release by combat jet from altitude ranging from 5,000 to 8,000 feet. The laser not only zooms into the target but illuminates the area seconds before detonation of the bomb. The ‘Lizard’ was on display at Aero India 2019.

At the air show, ELBIT handed over a $ multi-million export order for new generation jammer power amplifiers to Alpha Design Technologies Ltd, which, incidentally, also manufactures components and sub-systems for Su-30 MKI fighter jets. Eight of these jets provided additional protection to Mirage 2000 aircraft during this morning’s air strike.
