Air attack will change how world sees India: Expert

We also have to wait and see how Pakistan reacts and be ready with options if there are more attacks on India, Mr Bedi told.

Hyderabad: “The predawn surgical strike by the Indian Air Force (IAF) with Mirage jets is a massive boost for India,” opines India’s military and strategic affairs analyst Rahul Bedi.

“The world’s perspective is certainly bound to change now as India was earlier whining and running to other countries for support whenever there was an attack from Pakistan,” Mr Bedi told this newspaper.

But, he also cautions as he says, “We also have to wait and see how Pakistan reacts and be ready with options if there are more attacks on India.” On the number of people who died in the attack, Mr Bedi says, “We cannot gauge the exact figure and we have to go by what the Central government says. But the fact remains that the attack across the border is symbolic in the sense that the Indian Air Force penetrated 20-30 km deep inside Pakistan, destroyed the terrorists hideout and returned unharmed.”

Is India going the Israeli way in hitting back whenever Pakistan strikes? “No,” says Mr Bedi.

“The strikes are a watered-down version of the type Israel carries out. But, at the same, I am sure the strikes of this nature are sure to spook the enemy. They will now have to now think several times before taking any drastic step”.
