Wayanad to benefit from literacy project
KALPETTA: Wayanad district would be a major beneficiary of the state government's total tribal literacy project launching next month. The first phase will cover 100 Oorus, and 25 each are from Wayanad and Palakkad. The trainers have been selected, and Ooru-based literary committees formed. A survey has already been initiated to find the targeted tribal people. A common test, publishing of results and distribution of certificates would be in June.
The candidates who pass this test would be declared eligible for the equivalent course under the State Literacy Mission. One Prerak each would be allocated for each Ooru. Preraks would be tribal people who passed Class 10. In the absence of the tribesmen, only other people would be employed. Preraks from the same Ooru would be employed for that particular Ooru.
Samitis of grama panchayats, including its president, secretary, tribal extension officer, tribal department representative, literacy mission district coordinator, assistant coordinator and chief of the Ooru, would be entitled to select Preraks. The same Samiti would review the functioning of the project.
