Narendra Modi's statement ill behoves his status: V Narayanasamy
CHENNAI: Puducherry Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on Monday tore into Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his “uncalled for” attack on Congress during a public meeting on Sunday, seeking to know why he skirted issues regarding development projects being sought by his government in the Union Territory. He also said Modi's criticism of the Congress party that it will be in power only in the UT after June ill behoves his status as Prime Minister of the country. Narayanasamy said the Prime Minister should have spoken about issues concerning Puducherry instead of launching a political attack on a rival party.
While addressing the rally on Sunday, Modi had lashed out at the Congress party alleging that its work culture dictated by dynasty rule stalled projects and derailed development. And Puducherry is a “victim of Congress culture and its Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy will be the last of the Congress CMs (in the country)”, he told a large BJP rally here on Sunday.
“I met Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with my ministers and sought funds for several projects to be implemented in the Union Territory. The PM chose to ignore all my requests and targeted only my party. Why? I have also been requesting the Centre to release all payments pending and the Prime Minister conveniently chose to ignore that as well,” he told reporters at the airport here.
Punching holes in Modi's statement that Congress has spoiled Puducherry in the last 10 years, Narayanasamy said his party came to power only in June 2016 and that NR Congress headed by N. Rangasamy was in power till 2016. “By saying this, Prime Minister has accepted that NR Congress government was a failure. And the same prime minister's party was in alliance with the NR Congress in 2014,” Narayanasamy said.
