Madrash HC orders notice to O Panneerselvam and Edappadi K Palaniswami

Chinnasamy was the secretary of Peravai for over nine years and has increased the membership to 10 lakh.

CHENNAI: Madras high court has ordered notice to O. Paneerselvam and Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the co-ordinator and joint co-ordinator of AIADMK, and two others on a suit from former MLA R. Chinnasamy, which sought to declare as null and void, his removal from the post of the secretary of Anna Thozhir Sanga Peravai. Justice C.V. Karthikeyan posted to March 2 further hearing of the suit filed by Chinnasamy, which also sought to restrain Paneerselvam and Palaniswami from initiating any action against him except by due process of law.

Petitioner's counsel R.C. Paul Kanagaraj submitted that Chinnasamy was originally a trade union activist and was the office bearer of the state union of various trade organisations. While so, Chinnasamy, impressed by the dynamic administration and the welfare oriented attitude of general secretary of AIADMK J. Jayalalithaa, expressed his intention to join AIADMK. He was appointed as the secretary of Anna Thozhir Sanga Peravai on January 21, 2009.

Chinnasamy was the secretary of Peravai for over nine years and has increased the membership to 10 lakh and various welfare schemes for the benefit of the labourers was introduced under him, Kanagaraj said. He said that after the sudden demise of Jayalalithaa on December 5, Chinnasamy continued to be the secretary of the Peravai and continued to discharge his duties as per the vision and the path laid by the general secretary of the party.

On February 3, 2018, he came to know through a newspaper report that he was removed from the post of the secretary of the Peravai. In the current scenario, the administration of AIADMK without having the general secretary was defective and faulty as the posts held by Paneerselvam, Palanisamy and E. Madhusudanan were all self-serving posts. Thus, they were not the competent authority to remove the members from the Peravai.

They have vindictively removed him from the Peravai as secretary and he has not even been given any showcause notice nor have been given an opportunity of being heard. Further, only the general secretary of the party has the power to remove the secretary from the peravai. The very order of removal of Chinnasamy was nothing but an act of isolating Chinnasamy from the members of the Peravai, who were working for justice and welfare of the labourers, Paul Kanagaraj added.
