Bengaluru: Following the stiff resistance from the general public, anti-graft activists and political leaders, the state government has for the time being decided not to issue appointment orders to the 362 candidates of 2011 batch gazetted probationers.
There were allegations of malpractice in the selection process conducted by Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) and the subsequent CID investigation had substantiated it.
However on October 19, 2016, Karnataka State Administrative Tribunal (KSAT) set aside cabinet decision and directed it to provide appointment orders within two months.
According to KPSC sources the issue was discussed at length at a recent cabinet meeting held on Wednesday. "It was decided to postpone the decision till next meeting. As some ministers have vehemently opposed the proposal, it may not be considered for the time being," they added.
Some senior Congress party leaders had warned the state government against such a decision. "One of the common opinion is that if these candidates were issued appointment orders, the opposition parties may use it against the government and corruption is a major election issue. So the state government, which was earlier keen to issue appointment orders, has now decided to go slow," they explained.

They also felt that as the CID report was in the public domain, issuing appointment orders would cause public outrage. "CID investigation report had proved that there was nexus between candidates and few board members. In such a scenario, any action may sully the governments image," a source said.
