Tabs for AP medical students
Nellore: The State government would soon provide tabs to students of MBBS studying in government colleges. The medical and health department is gearing up to provide ultrasound scanning facility in all the government-run hospitals in the state from March 8 this year. Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas announced this after inaugurating new buildings constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 25 crore at Sri Venkateswara Ramanarayana Ruia Hospital premises at Tirupati on Friday.
According to the minister, measures are being taken to fill 1,000 vacant nursing posts and 500 doctor posts in government hospitals in 13 districts of the state to overcome the shortage. Each district will get anywhere between 30 to 50 doctors after the recruitment. He dwelt at length on the success of Talli-Bidda Exp-ress vehicles scheme, the first of its kind in the country. The Talli Bidda Express vehicles would ferry mother and child home safely after delivery.
The minister claimed that the scheme to provide free diagnostic tests for 60 diseases being carried out in the area hospitals and general hospitals across the state. He said that they are following rule of reservation both in the recruitment of medical officers as well as paramedical staff. The minister pointed to the steps being taken to supply medicines through the proposed Health ATMs soon while referring to priority being given by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to health services.
He assured to fill the seats in Sri Padmavathi Medical College as per Supreme Court orders. Dr Srinivas laid the foundation stone for a hostel in Padmavathi Nursing College estimated to cost Rs 13.47 lakh, besides Rs 1.17 crore estimated faculty hall and different buildings on the premises of the college by spending Rs 10 crore. Forest Minister Bojjala Gopalakrishna Reddy, Tiru-pati legislator M. Suguna-mma and MLC G. Srinivas-ulu were present.
