Kin of 576 Telangana martyrs to get jobs on June 2

The family members of the T-martyrs had been demanding government jobs since the TRS came to power in June 2014.

Hyderabad: After a long wait, the families of Telangana martyrs will finally get government jobs. The state government has cleared files to give jobs for the kin of 576 T-martyrs who had sacrificed their lives for achieving statehood.

In its 2014 election manifesto, the TRS promised to provide Rs 10 lakh ex gratia besides a job to one member of martyr’s family. The ex gratia was paid, but jobs were pending.

Arrangements are being made by Telangana state to issue appointment letters to the relatives of martyrs for Telangana on the occasion of the second anniversary of TS formation on June 2.

The family members of the T-martyrs had been demanding government jobs since the TRS came to power in June 2014. The party had also been coming under fire from the Opposition for failing to provide jobs even 20 months after it took power.

As per the modalities, if the family members are uneducated, they will be given jobs of office subordinates or watchmen or sweepers.

If they have the required educational qualifications, they will be offered junior assistant posts. These jobs will be offered to the spouse or children of T-martyrs.

If the martyr was unmarried or did not have children, the job will be offered either to his parents or siblings. If they are not interested in the jobs, the government will offer other alternatives like free three-acre agriculture land or bank-linked government subsidy loans for setting up a unit for their livelihood.

Beneficiaries have been identified in Karimnagar (186), Warangal (96), Nalgonda (64), Medak (58), Nizamabad (43), Ranga Reddy (37), Adilabad (27), Hyderabad (21), Mahbubnagar (19) and Khammam (5). There is uncertainty over identification of 20 others.

Following the directions of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the committee headed by revenue secretary B.R. Meena had drafted the norms and sent them to the Legal department for approval.

“The legal department approved the norms but raised queries over who would be given priority in a T-martyr’s family if more than one person sought the job,” said a committee member. Appointment letters would be handed over to beneficiaries on the occasion of TS Forma-tion Day on June 2.
