Governor Banwarilal Purohit lauds Tamil Nadu on various fronts

Applauding the state gvt for toiling hard to fulfill requirements of people whose demands range from marriage assistance to employment.

CHENNAI: Applauding the state government for “toiling hard” to fulfill requirements of people whose demands range from marriage assistance to employment, Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Friday stressed on practising “honesty, efficiency and accountability in administration” to meet their aspirations.

In his Republic Day speech at the gala event on the Marina beach that saw Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and O. Panneerselvam in attendance, Purohit said Tamil Nadu has shown the way for other states in India on several social measures like the nutritious midday meal scheme, old age oension scheme, maternity assistance scheme and Amma unavagam.

When meeting people during the course of my tours, I have realised that there are a lot of people who have been requesting for issue of house pattas, and provision of civic amenities such as water supply.

Applications for marriage assistance and for employment are also among the representations mentioned to me by people.

“I am also able to see that the administration is toiling very hard to satisfy all these requirements promptly and in a people friendly manner. For these efforts to bear fruit fully, it is necessary to emphasise that we practise the qualities of honesty, efficiency and accountability in administration,” Purohit said in his address.

Purohit, who took over as Governor of Tamil Nadu in October 2017, was speaking after unfurling the tricolour and taking the salute. Members of the armed forces and uniformed personnel took out an impressive march past on Kamaraj Salai along the famous Marina beach here, even as a good number of public had turned up to witness the proceedings.

In his speech, the Governor said the state is endowed with good infrastructure, an excellent climate and a work culture where people work hard and work with efficiency and sincerity.

“The achievements of the state in the fields of the health and education have set an example for the whole nation,” he said.

Terming 2017 a historic year for the nation, Purohit said the earnest steps taken by the Union and the state governments have made the implementation of GST fairly smooth.

The state governments have also been protected from any revenue reduction risk by the effective compensation scheme put in place by the Government of India, he said.

Congratulating the state government for reviving the practice of “Kudi Maramathu”, he said the scheme enables the storage of more water in tanks and reservoirs during the rainy season, while at the same time helping the farmers to get the benefit of silt from the tank-bed for agricultural purposes.
