Bengaluru: Siddaganga Mutt chief pontiff Shivakumara Swamiji hospitalised

Bengaluru: Siddaganga Mutt chief pontiff Shivakumara Swamiji, who is 110 years old, was admitted to BGS Gleneagles Global Hospitals in Kengeri on Friday. According to the hospital he was brought to the hospital around 9.30 am after he complained of fever, low blood pressure and low oxygen levels.

"He had also been suffering from persistent cough for the past two days. The hospital carried out Initial investigations and Dr Ravindra B.S. (Chief of Medical Gastroenterology) and his team, along with the Swamiji’s personal doctors, are currently attending to him. He is currently being treated with antibiotics and is under close medical supervision. Further course of treatment will be decided based on the results of these investigations," said Thomas Mathew, Chief Operating Officer, BGS Hospital.

Around 2.30pm a CT scan was performed. This revealed that Swamiji was suffering from pneumonia and the stents that were previously placed in his liver tube are blocked. Three stents have been placed to manage this problem. He is currently undergoing treatment for pneumonia, kidney failure, and low blood pressure.

It may be recalled that Swamiji was admitted to the hospital in September, 2017, wherein his initial diagnosis showed that he had problems with the kidneys and pancreas, infections in the lungs, gallbladder, and liver, along with an obstruction in the liver tube. He was also found to be suffering from jaundice.

After the assessment it was decided to carry out a stenting procedure to clear the blockage in the liver tube.
