Visakhapatnam: After years of delay, Andhra University has finally taken up the task of developing sports infrastructure to encourage sports. Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University prof G. The development work to convert the varsity’s main ground into the best ground to organise cricket is going on in full swing. Andhra University has a great past and a bright future in sports and we are committed to improve the facilities and develop the grounds and indoor stadiums as sports and games are a part of the curriculum said prof N. Vijay Mohan, Director and Head of Department of Physical Education, AU.

Sources said that though Andhra Cricket Association had signed an MoU with AU to develop AU’s engineering college into a green ground, it didn’t take off. Sources also said that AU will spend around Rs 1.5 crore to build a gymnasium beside the existing one on the south campus as UGC has given us a fund of Rs 1.5 crore to build the gymnasium and it will have at least three badminton courts and one indoor-volleyball court.

The gymnasium will also have modern equipment for weight-lifting. The gym will be ready in a couple of months. The V-C said that they are chalking out plans to set up another gymnasium.
