RTC cargo to transport liquor too

Focus on courier services, CM tells RTC staff.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday instructed all concerned department officials to prepare a strategy to expand cargo and parcel services of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC).

While holding a high- level review meeting on RTC here, Mr Rao made it clear that hereafter all goods and parcel transportation of government departments will only be done through the RTC Cargo and Parcel service.

Stating that clear-cut instructions will be given to all the departments in this regard, he said that Bathukamma sarees, books for educational institutions, liquor delivered to shops from depots and breweries, supply of medicines to hospitals and all the goods being supplied by the government, will be transported through RTC.

Pointing out that people are sending their goods and parcels through the private networks, he asked the authorities to take steps to encourage them to utilise the RTC services, which would also make economic sense.

He told the officials to establish stock points in Hyderabad and other cities for export and import of goods and parcels. He said, “If we increase the goods transport it will be beneficial to the people and also fetch additional revenue to the Corporation. If RTC starts making profits, the staff and employees will get bonus. Train employees on the proposed expansions and also make buses useful for goods and parcel transportation.”

Mr Rao said the constitution of the RTC Employees Welfare Board is to solve the employees’ problems, meet eventualities and to implement assurances already given to them.

Mr. Rao has decided to set up the Welfare Board with 202 members taking two representatives from each depot. Of this, 94 will be from the BC communities, 38 SCs, 26 STs, 44 OCs and also 73 women members.

He said the Board meetings will be held once in a week at the depot level, once in a month at the region level, once in three months at the Corporation level.
