Uttam Kumar Reddy writes to Telangana CM on BC quota in PR elections
Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has written an open letter to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao demanding the withdrawal of the ordinance on BC quota in the panchayat raj (PR) elections which caps reservations at 23 per cent.
He demanded that the caste-wise enumeration of BCs be carried out as per the High Court orders.
Describing the ordinance as an ‘undemocratic ordinance’ bringing down reservations for BCs, he wrote, “The Congress disagrees with your government’s ordinance reducing the BC reservation quota on the pretext of the Supreme Court verdict. The entire BC community of Telangana is agitated about reducing reservations for BCs in sarpanch and local body elections. The Congress categorically states that reservations for BCs in local body elections must be commensurate with the population percentage of BCs in Telangana.”
He said the state government was ignoring the orders of the High Court. He objected to the State Election Commission conducting the PR elections on the defective electoral rolls.
