Two-wheeler theft on the rise in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: There has been a rise in two-wheeler thefts in the city and vehicles parked on the road side are the prime targets.
Police also find it difficult to trace them as they are often dismantled and sold part by part. Till November 2018, 5,023 vehicles have been stolen, while in 2017 it was 6,156 vehicles and in 2016 it was 5,842 vehicles.
A senior police officer said, “The highest number of vehicles stolen is two-wheelers. One of the prime reasons is that people park vehicles on the road side and outside their houses. Hence it becomes an easy target for the offenders, as it is easier to steal.”
“Even parking outside the house in residential areas is risky because there is no one to monitor the vehicles. The culprits keep a watch on vehicles that are parked continuously at the same spot and target them. They even get duplicate keys made for various kinds of vehicles and it makes their job easier,” the officer added.
The officer also mentioned that vehicles parked outside the houses during night faces higher risk. “We keep getting complaints about bike theft and it is difficult to trace them, as they dismantle the vehicle and sell parts in neighbouring states. The residents should install CCTV cameras at their house, so that we can know how and when the incident takes place and it will be easier to nab the offenders,” he added.
