Khammam: A priest and his son were injured after they were attacked by the henchmen of a realtor. The incident took place in Pindiprolu under Tirumalayapalem mandal in the early hours of Tuesday.
Marikanti Veerabhadram, 60, and his son Sankar, 31, who are priests of Sivalayam, sustained head injuries in the incident and are currently undergoing medical treatment.
According to sources, J Ramakoteswara Rao, a resident of Vijayawada and Sobhan bought eight acres of land in Pindiprolu and began a real estate venture. There are hillocks and boulders in the land, which they had identified for their venture. Rao and his men began carrying out blasts in order to level the land. The noise from these blasts caused a lot of inconvenience to the residents of the surrounding area.
Marikanti Veerabhadram and his son approached the realtors and asked them to take up blasting in a phased manner and not to disturb the locals. There was an argument between Veerabhadram and Sankar and the realtors.
Later, the priest and his son left the place. Four people hired by the realtors arrived at Veerabhadram’s house later that night and tried to wake them up.
Sankar’s wife told them her father in-law was sleeping in the Sivalayam. The goons woke him up and attacked him with a stick. He sustained a head injury.
They also attacked Sankar with a soda bottle. Sankar was seriously injured and he may have to undergo surgery.
Later, the women of the house threw chilli powder on the men and forced them to flee. On being informed the police arrived on the scene and have taken the men into custody.
