Telangana: New AICTE norms for management institutes

Most institutions do not have enough teachers and even rules set for attendance: Dr P Madhusudhan Reddy.

Hyderabad: Colleges offering PG diploma in management and MBA will no longer have a free run after All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) issued a circular on admissions and courses. A circular released by AICTE recently said, “Only students who have qualified All India management tests such as CAT, CMAT or other examinations conducted by states will be allowed admission.” Junior Lecturers Association president Dr P. Madhusudhan Reddy said, “This step will boost the quality of management education. Most institutions do not have enough teachers and even rules set for attendance. There are over 20 business schools in Ameerpet alone. Management institutes need to be streamlined just like engineering institutions.”

Mr Lakshmi Rao, a member of Save Education Society, said, “Six to 12 month diploma courses in management are being offered for a high fee. Most engineering graduates join these colleges because they believe a management diploma would help them get jobs. Students should inquire about placements from the institute before joining these courses.”She said that with the new rule set by AICTE in ensuring that the diploma is no less than 21 months, many short-term management diploma courses will have make the necessary changes. AICTE has also laid down strict guidelines on withholding refund of fees.
