Telangana: High-rise offices plague pensioners
Hyderabad: Government offices on higher floors are posing problem to senior citizens. These buildings are not senior citizen-friendly without lifts, elevators or ramps. The revenue division office and the mandal revenue office in Secunderabad, which are frequented by pensioners, have three floors with a steep staircase. Physically-challenged persons, who are eligible for Rs 1,500 per month pension, also face hardships in these buildings. They are forced to come to these offices at least thrice a week with the officials, saying that they are busy or citing internet connectivity problems. People who want ration cards, 2BHK houses, caste, income, and residence certificates throng the RDO and MRO.
“There is no guarantee that our work will be done if we visit once or thrice. It all depends on the rush and the mood of the officials. We don’t mind coming to the offices again and again but what troubles us is that these offices are located on higher floors with a steep staircase,” said Laxmi Narasamma, who has been visiting the MRO frequently to submit the 2BHK application. Officials said the government is planning to shift all these offices to the Secretariat premises with lift facility.
