Chennai: OMR gets a culture boost with festival
Chennai: Ramaniyam’s Lasya, the cultural hub, is hosting a music festival at OMR Janaki Ammal auditorium at the APL Global School campus in Thoraipakkam. The 10-day music festival was inaugurated by actor Sivakumar on Saturday with Bombay Jayashri lighting the traditional lamp. A Carnatic violin duet by M. Lalitha and M. Nandini set the tone for the festival being held near the IT hub of the city as distinct from the city centre where the Margazhi festival is traditionally held in sabhas.
“Our main aim is to help strike a balance between the traditional and contemporary art forms by promoting a wide range of events from Carnatic concerts to theatre performances across diverse art forms”, said Mr Jagannathan, MD, Ramaniyam. Artistes who wil be performing in the coming days are — Carnatic vocal —Abhishek Raghuram (Dec. 26), Concept & choreography by Anitha Guha and lyrics & music by Neyveli Santhanagopalan (Dec. 27), Carnatic vocal — Ranjani & Smt Gayatri (Dec. 28), Saxophone by Kadri Gopalnath (Dec. 29), ‘Chocolate Krishna’ drama (Dec. 30), Carnatic vocal by Sudha Ragunathan (Dec. 31), and Carnatic vocal by N Vijay Siva (Jan. 1, 2018).
